Frequently asked questions
Common questions about the ditch, the rotation, and what to do when something isn't right.
How do I know when it is my turn to irrigate?
Find your reach (Track, In Town West of 395, or In Town East of 395) on the schedule page. Each reach has a set day and time window. If you are unsure which reach you are on, contact the ditch tender.
The water is low or not reaching my property. What should I do?
First walk your lateral and clear any debris caught at screens or culverts — most low-flow problems are a blockage upstream of you. If the lateral is clear and flow is still low, report it from the contact page so it can be traced.
Can I change or trade my rotation turn?
Turns keep the flow fair down the whole ditch, so they are not changed casually. If you cannot use your turn, tell the ditch tender as early as you can — the water can often be offered as a Saturday make-up turn.
Who actually controls how much water enters the ditch?
LADWP manages the water supply and the releases into the Big Pine ditch system. The community ditch tender coordinates how that water is rotated among landholders once it is in the ditch.
There is flooding or a washout. Who do I call?
For any immediate threat to life or property, call 911. For a non-emergency blockage or washout, contact the ditch tender so it can be cleared before it worsens.
Is this an official LADWP website?
No. This is a community-run information site that publishes the schedule, status, and announcements so neighbors share the same information. For official notices, contact LADWP directly — see the contact page.
How is this site kept up to date?
The status banner, schedule, and contacts are maintained by the community. Announcements are posted to the updates page as conditions change. Check back during the irrigation season for the latest.
